A Barista’s Review: Laekerrt Espresso Machine CMEP02

I’ve worked as a barista for two years so operating an espresso machine is second nature to me. However, for those new to the world of creating espresso beverages, the Laekerrt Espresso Machine CMEP02 is the perfect place to start.

The Laekerrt comes with a comprehensive instruction manual, a recipe book, and a machine guide, making it user-friendly right out of the box. If a buyer has no experience with espresso, they can learn the insights of the craft quickly.

Also included with the machine are two different filter sizes, a scoop that doubles as a tamper and a portafilter. Buyers just need espresso beans and they have everything they need to start making drinks.

The Laekerrt is sleek and compact with a trendy blue color. It has a steaming wand built in and a cup warmer on the top. The design prioritizes convenience; with a removable drip tray and water cartridge, it is easy to clean and store.

The uncomplicated make up of only four buttons creates a straightforward and not too overwhelming process. While the Laekerrt looks simple, it can perform a wide variety of tasks including steaming milk, dispensing hot water and creating foam.

The process to make espresso is quick with the water only taking 30 seconds to heat up. Also, the water tank holds 1.25 liters so it doesn’t have to be refilled often.

The Laekerrt offers users the option to pull one or two shots with the press of a button. What makes the Laekerrt optimal for new users is the predetermined water volumes. In some machines, the user has to determine when to start and stop the water. This can be complicated and lead to watery shots. However, the Laekerrt features two preset water amounts. The user only needs to fill the portafilter with beans and press which button they desire.

The main downside of the Laekerrt is that it is loud. If a person was attempting to use this early in the morning while their roommates are still sleeping, there is a chance it could wake them up.

Another downside is the lack of a thermometer in the box with the machine, so people new to the coffee world may have difficulty discerning when to stop steaming the milk. However, once a person learns the correct stopping point, the Laekerrt creates a perfect, fluffy foam.

At $150 the Laekerrt is well worth the cost. After all, nowadays that’s just 15 specialty drinks from Starbucks.

The biggest of coffee snobs would be impressed with this small but mighty machine. Even with no barista training, the espresso tastes as good as if you were to buy from a cafe.
